MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E: Sustainable Bus of the Year 2026 | Busworld Europe 2025
MAN Lion’s Coach E is the first battery-electric coach from a major European manufacturer. The e-bus has a usable energy capacity of up to 480 kWh, offering a driving range of up to 650 kms in single charge.
The much-awaited all-electric intercity coach from MAN Truck & Bus – the MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E – debuted on the opening day of the Busworld Europe 2025 trade fair with a bang! It secured the coveted Sustainable Bus Award (Sby) for the year 2026 in the “Coach” category. This is the first time in eight years since the award’s inception that an electric bus has been adjudged as winner in this category.
The Sby Award is perhaps the only European accolade that honors innovative and sustainable technologies shaping the future of bus mobility. It is awarded by a jury of specialist journalists from ten European countries representing leading business magazines. The jury was impressed with MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E’s powerful electric drivetrain, long range, comfort, safety, and overall sustainability.

The battery-electric coach truly sets technological standards for sustainable long-distance travel. Featuring a fully-electric powertrain with a continuous output of 330 kW and a usable battery capacity of 320 to 480 kWh, the coach promises a driving range of up to 650 kms. With fast-charging technology, the coach is ideal for long-distance operations. The e-coach uses the innovative and proven MAN BatteryPack featuring Lithium-ion NMC-type cells.
In addition to superior electric technology, the smart design concept of the MAN coach significantly reduces the drag coefficient. It offers seating for up to 63 passengers without no compromise on luggage volume compared to the diesel version. Needless to mention, the electric coach offers a plenty of features inside for a cozy passenger experience, augmented by the its impressive ride comfort. The vehicle is also supported by onboard digital systems and extended connectivity through the RIO platform.
The MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E also excels in safety. It is equipped with an advanced driver assistance (ADAS) package that includes Emergency Brake Assist (EBA Plus) with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control “Stop & Go” function, lane-keeping assist, and the innovative MAN Safe Stop Assist. The quintessential ‘OptiView’ mirror replacement system of the Lion’s Coach is present as well. The coach has garnered jury’s appraise for its compliance with the latest standards in active and passive safety.

Lastly, the electric coach claims a recycling rate of over 95 percent of its components. It is assembled at facilities certified according to international environmental standards, and integrates responsible lifecycle management of its batteries. All these attributes have helped the debutant MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E to score high in jury’s assessment for the prestigious award.
