Tata Motors unveiled the next-generation Prima facelift cabin at the recently held Auto Expo 2025, as part of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 last month. The refreshed cabin, both inside and out, debuted in the company’s production-ready Tata Prima H.28 Hydrogen ICE truck. The latest cabin presents a significant step forward in terms of design, comfort, and brand proposition for the Prima range of heavy-duty, premium trucks.

The manufacturer is indeed evolving a unique DNA in terms of design and signature styling for its commercial vehicles. The new design language is conceived to be simple, graceful and yet radically distinctive from the previous models in its approach. It is also more than just being contemporary in styling, taking into account the sensibilities of the new ‘digital’ era.

For instance, the most important element of the new design language of Tata commercial vehicles is its fresh ‘T’ logo. According to the company, it showcases the brand’s “better always” proposition. More importantly, the prominently-placed 2D logo and the signature grille with horizontal slat design actually incorporates the tech elements of ADAS and connectivity features, the emerging new norm in trucks and buses in the coming years.

Modern cabin profile

Unlike the Tata Prima’s existing ‘Premium Tough’ cabin, the facelift cabin clearly aims for a modern, formal and graceful aesthetic, thanks to smoother lines and aerodynamic profile. This is also evident from curved windshield, rounded roofline, and integrated side deflectors. The side mirrors and front roof mirrors are also redesigned to offer a more urbane look.

The first styling element that catches the eyes are the flamboyant LED DRLs, flanking the front grille on three sides. The horizontal DRL that runs as wide as the grille, flanked by DRL units on both the side is a nice touch. Enhancing the serene and premium appeal of the truck is its bumper unit. It houses all-LED headlamps, a substantial departure from the previous generation, both in terms of visual design and lighting effectivity for the driver.

Moreover, the black trims in the lower part of the bumper, below the windshield and on the side waist lines of the cab, along with the blackened wheel caps, is truly sensible. The side profile of the new Prima cabin is dominated by sleek waist lines and detailing elements. The aerodynamic roofline and integrated side deflectors complete the aesthetics of the next-generation cabin for Tata’s flagship trucks.

Having said that, the fresh design doesn’t sacrifice the robust and purposeful look expected of the Prima heavy-duty range. The strong shoulder line, prominent grille, and sturdy bumper convey the durability and capability. Although Tata is likely to offer the existing ‘Premium Tough’ cabins for the Prima’s construction and mining tipper variants.

Premium and plush interiors

Moving on to the interiors, the new Prima cabin blends a premium and plush aesthetic with a focus on driver functionality and comfort. The use of higher quality materials, modern design elements, and advanced technology features elevates the cabin experience. This makes the new Prima a more competitive offering in the premium truck segment, competing against the likes of Volvo FM and Scania R series.

To start with, the Prima facelift cabin utilizes a dual-tone color scheme, with a lighter primary color and darker accents dominating the dashboard. This creates a sense of spaciousness and sophistication, visually speaking. The dashboard, door and cabin elements are evidently made of durable plastics with a more refined finish, a big improvement from the previous gen cabin.

The dashboard is redesigned with a more modern and ergonomic layout. It’s less boxy and features smoother lines. The center console is angled towards the driver for easy access to controls. In addition, the 3-spoke steering wheels mimics that of modern cars. While the all-digital instrumentation and 7-inch multi-information display is yet another radical departure, setting new benchmarks in the heavy-duty truck segment.

Other interior features worth mentioning are the touch-screen infotainment display, plush seats and spacious sleeper bed, storage spaces for utility, and so on. Technology wise, the cabin is equipped with Driver Monitoring System (DMS, part of ADAS Level 2 suite), electronic mirrors, power windows, and central locking system. Moreover, the entire cabin is compliant to AIS 195 H2 safety standards.

On the whole, the new Tata Prima facelift successfully balances the modern, urbane styling with the ruggedness and practicality associated with the ‘Prima’ moniker. The company is expected to press the facelift cabin into production versions in the coming years.
