Tata Signa G.48T CNG truck: Signa facelift cabin, added features | Auto Expo 2023
The all-new Tata Signa G.48T 16-wheeler truck promises a 280 hp mx power and CNG driving range of up to 1,000 kms, with a payload capacity of 34 tonnes.
Tata Motors unveiled its next-generation CNG-powered haulage truck – the Signa G.48T – at the Auto Expo 2023. Apart from reworked gas engine, the new Signa boasts revised cabin with fresh exterior and interior, and addition of technology and utility features.
Unlike the previous Signa CNG truck variants we have seen, this flagship truck houses a separate compartment behind the cabin for CNG cylinders. This enables the manufacturer to stack-up more tanks to achieve higher range without frequent refueling. There are also dual gas filling nozzles to reduce the refueling time.
Using Type 4 light-weight composite CNG cylinders, the truck can offer about 1,000 kms of driving range in full tank of gas, with a payload capacity of 34,000 kgs. The option of cheaper Type 1 CNG cylinders does exist, but the range and payload capacity would take a dip.
Tata claims that the new CNG truck range has been configured on a modular platform architecture with reliable aggregates, thereby making it customisable for different body applications and use-case applications.

The Signa G.48T is powered by Cummins 6.7-litre natural gas engine (ISBe 6.7B) generating 280 hp power and 1,100 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 9-speed manual heavy-duty gearbox. The 47-tonne GVW truck is said to have higher engine performance and reduced total cost of ownership than its close diesel-powered rivals.
Facelifted Signa cabin
The Signa cabin gets an impressive makeover in this CNG truck, which is expected to be spruce-up the entire Signa truck range before the end of this year. The cabin’s fascia is elegantly imitates the ‘Premium Tough’ styling of the new Prima range, with bolder grille and brand logo, projector-type headlamps with LED DRLs and cornering lamps, and neatly-crafted bumper housing LED fog lamps.
On the inside, the new Signa largely retains the dashboard layout, but the redesigned steering wheel, instrumentation, switch-consoles with 7-inch infotainment system, over-head bin and 3-piece berth with locker makes the interior completely new. Driver seating position and door opening angle are improved, while side visibility is improved with a pillar mounted proximity mirror.
Tech features and ADAS
The new Signa G.48T comes equipped with Hill Start Aid (HSA) automatic roll brake functions and ‘Fleet Edge’ advanced telematics system with connected features like remote diagnosis and OTA updates. Other driver assist functions includes Driver Monitoring System (DMS) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Tata Motors is also extending other ADAS functions from the new Prima range like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Collision Mitigation System (CMS) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) as optional equipment to this Signa truck.
With CNG advantages and added features, the new Signa G.48T is best suited for fleet buyers operating in the FMCG, cement, and bulker operations.
