The 47-tonne GVW truck is said to have higher engine performance and reduced total cost of ownership than its close diesel-powered rivals.

Tata Motors unveiled its next-generation CNG-powered haulage truck – the Signa G.48T – at the Auto Expo 2023. Apart from reworked gas engine, the new Signa boasts revised cabin with fresh exterior and interior, and addition of technology and utility features.

Unlike the previous Signa CNG truck variants we have seen, this flagship truck houses a separate compartment behind the cabin for CNG cylinders. This enables the manufacturer to stack-up more tanks to achieve higher range without frequent refueling. There are also dual gas filling nozzles to reduce the refueling time.

Using Type 4 light-weight composite CNG cylinders, the truck can offer about 1,000 kms of driving range in full tank of gas, with a payload capacity of 34,000 kgs. The option of cheaper Type 1 CNG cylinders does exist, but the range and payload capacity would take a dip.

Tata claims that the new CNG truck range has been configured on a modular platform architecture with reliable aggregates, thereby making it customisable for different body applications and use-case applications.

The 47-tonne GVW truck is said to have higher engine performance and reduced total cost of ownership than its close diesel-powered rivals.
