BharatBenz’s new 6.7-litre diesel engine rejuvenates heavy-duty rigid truck range
Bharatbenz’s all-new range of heavy-duty rigid trucks boast significant improvements in terms of fuel efficiency and operational flexibility towards lower TCO, according to the manufacturer.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) recently introduced its all-new BharatBenz heavy-duty rigid truck range with a much-improved powertrain for superior reliability and additional payload applications for the Indian market. The truck range includes five variants – 2826R (6×2), 3526R (8×2), 3832R (8×2), 4232R (10×2) and 4832R (10×2).
These new trucks are powered by Daimler’s all-new ‘6D26′ 6.7-litre 6-cylinder common-rail diesel engine compliant to BS-VI Stage 2 emission standards. Two sets power and torque configurations for the trucks include 250 hp and 950 Nm and 306 hp and 1,200 Nm. The range was previously powered by a 6.3-litre 230 hp mill.

A 6-speed ‘G85’ manual gearbox with overdrive feature will be standard for 2826R and 3526R variants, while a 9-speed ‘G131’ gearbox will be powering the high-spec 306 hp variants such as the 3832R, 4232R, and 4832R.
According to DICV, the engine and gearboxes are designed to handle higher payloads efficiently in diverse road conditions, by ensuring smoother shifts and high torque delivery at lower speeds, thanks to the Load Based Speed Control (LBSC). The new Bharatbenz rigid trucks are also equipped with the ‘EFFI+’ package, and multi-drive mode functionality for better drivability and lower TCO.
The EFFI+ package includes features such as ‘Minimal Parked Regeneration’ to cut unwarranted fuel burn at idle; ‘Auto Green Band’ that maintains optimum engine RPM for higher efficiency; ‘Auto Idling Shutdown’ that stops the engine at prolonged idling; and ‘Harsh Acceleration Control’ that limits excess acceleration to save fuel.
To enhance the payload applications of these trucks, DICV has engineered joggle frame chassis with riveted joints to support wide range of new application including bitumen, bulker, and oil tanker applications.
