Yutong unveils new-gen U12DD battery electric double decker bus

The Yutong U12DD battery electric double-decker will serve as the brand’s flagship product for the international markets, catering to the diverse needs of global cities for sustainable mass transportation.

Arguably the world’s largest bus manufacturer, Yutong is setting new benchmarks in battery electric bus transportation with its new generation U12DD double decker electric bus. The 12-metre e-bus was recently unveiled at Yutong Electric Bus Intelligent Manufacturing Factory located in Zhengzhou City, China.

The high-end electric bus is targeted at the international market, as part of the brand’s renewed global strategy for new energy buses. Yutong claims that the new double-decker achieves comprehensive breakthroughs in safety, range, durability and battery management, towards a comprehensive green mobility solution for global cities.

Notably, the U12DD double decker is said to consume just 0.81 kWh/km under SORT2 operational conditions. Equipped with a 621 kWh battery pack, the bus can support a driving range of 670 kms. The e-bus comes with standard EU-compliant dual-gun charging, with a max power rating of 350 kW that takes just 2 hours recharge.

In terms of safety, Yutong’s pioneering ‘YESS’ battery safety protection system is in place. The double decker’s battery, motor and electric control systems meet the highest protection level of IP68 + IP6K9K standards, according to the manufacturer.

Several upgrades in body construction and components integration has been carried out to improve overall efficiency. The all-aluminum body of the bus claims weight reduction by 1,300 kgs, while SiC silicon carbide controllers and variable-frequency water pumps cut energy use by 10 percent.

Further, advanced electrocoating and anti-corrosion technology extend the vehicle’s structural lifespan to 20 years or 2 million kilometers. For enhanced operational management, the e-bus comes with ‘Link+’ fleet management and intelligent cockpit system, enabling remote monitoring and precise dispatching.

Design wise, the Yutong U12DD double decker smartly retains the brand’s signature front face. Featuring a rational three-door and dual-staircase layout, the bus can accommodate up to 120 passengers. A high-capacity 52,000 kcal/h air conditioning system guarantees rapid cooling of the large passenger saloons.
