Ashok Leyland bags ₹700 cr. worth order for defence logistics vehicles

Ashok Leyland’s defence arm is set to deliver a diverse range of specialized vehicles to the Indian armed forces next year.

The defence business arm of Indian CV giant Ashok Leyland has won multiple orders valued more than ₹700 crores. The vehicles will cover the needs of troop transportation, logistics, and other specialised mobility requirements under the Close-in Weapon Systems (CIWS) program of the Indian defence sector.

The newly secured contracts involve the procurement of various specialized vehicles, including the Stallion 4×4, Stallion 6×6, Short Chassis Bus, and Mobility System Travelling Platform. These vehicles are engineered for high reliability and exceptional off-road performance, according to the manufacturer.

With this order, the company further solidifies its hold in the defence mobility sector. Ashok Leyland also reaffirms its commitment to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the armed forces through local design and manufacturing.

As far as the vehicles in point are concerned, the order is likely to feature Ashok Leyland’s latest Stallion MK V range for both the 4×4 and 6×6 categories. It is basically a reworked platform derived from the company’s popular Boss range of ICV trucks. The MK V compliments the Stallion MK IV range featuring Ecomet cabins.

The Stallion MK V range is powered by 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The powertrain features an inline fuel pump system and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the Stallion 4×4 produces 180 hp peak power and 670 Nm torque, the 6×6 version deliver 220 hp and 800 Nm.

The Short Chassis Bus, on the other hand, dons a rugged and reliable built for maneuvering hilly terrains. With a GVW of 9,440 kgs, the bus delivers 140 hp power and 450 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox does the duty in this defence troop bus.

Ashok Leyland’s defence vehicle platforms range from 4×4 to 12×12 logistics and troop transport solutions. They are designed to meet the contemporary requirements of the sector, including armouring. The company also offers a variety of specialised and high-mobility platforms for the armed forces.
