Eicher Trucks and Buses (VECV) has revealed the development of a small commercial vehicle (SCV) range designed for the Indian market. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi today, the company unveiled its all-new mini-truck in EV avatar.

The mini-truck seems production-ready, and is scheduled to hit customer trials in April this year. Commercial launch is expected in the first quarter of next year, company claims. The manufacturer has not christened the mini-truck range yet, which is to sit a notch below the Eicher Pro 1049 truck.

The new mini truck range marks the re-entry of Eicher brand into the most-contested SCV segment in India, after the failure of quirky-yet-ingenious Eicher-Polaris Multix utility vehicle that saw market launch last decade.

The manufacturer has noted that the electric version of the mini-truck will hit the market first, followed by ‘clean’ CNG and diesel variants. It is a smart move on part of Eicher to introduce the SCV range in EV flair, especially at this time and age when the segment is progressively moving towards cleaner solutions.

The electric SCV will take on the likes of Tata Ace EV and Switch Mobility’s IeV series at present. The manufacturer is tight-lipped on the battery technology, specifications and performance figures of the ‘EV’ mini truck for now.

The CNG and diesel variants, on the other hand, can endear the segment buyers in their respective markets, given that EVs are not there yet to meet comprehensive needs of the SCV segment.

Further, at the expo, Eicher displayed the production-ready version of the 5-tonne class electric mini truck unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023 last year. The EV has now been re-christened as Eicher Pro 2055 EV, with a GVW rating of 5.5 tonnes.
