Maruti Suzuki e VITARA: The e-born electric SUV hits Indian market | Auto Expo 2025
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara marks the entry of the popular brand into the mass-market, compact e-SUV segment in India. The EV packs efficient e-powertrain, sophisticated tech features, and off-road abilities to lure the buyers.

It’s indeed a landmark moment for India’s largest carmaker at the Auto Expo 2025 Motor Show today. As Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first-ever global electric car that is to be manufactured in India, the ‘e Vitara’ made a stunning debut for the Indian audience.
The e Vitara is the Suzuki brand’s first global BEV model, based on the ‘eVX’ concept that was previously unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023. Conceived under the concept of “Emotional Versatile Cruiser”, the electric SUV combines futuristic design with a sense of sophisticated technology. The car aims to offer sharp on-road driving experience and decent off-road capabilities.
Design and styling
Design wise, the e Vitara presents a robust impression of an urban SUV with a BEV character. The exterior features a striking design characterized by chunky 18” wheel arches, character lines, shorter overhangs and longer wheelbase. The car measures 4,275 mm long and 1,800 mm wide, with a wheel base of 2,700 mm. Ground clearance of the SUV is 180 mm, and the minimum turning radius is 5.2 metre.

The car’s interior can be termed as a blend of sportiness and functionality. The cabin incorporates tough-looking panels and center console with an integrated digital cockpit, reflecting its styling theme “High-Tech & Adventure”. The ergonomically-designed dual-tone dashboard is aesthetically appealing and great to work with. Key features that are worth mentioning are ventilated seats, split rear seats with sliding and reclining functionalities, and so on.
Electric Drive
At the ‘heart’ of the new e Vitara is the ‘HEARTECT-e Platform‘. Lightweight structure, high-voltage protection, and spacious cabin defines the e-car platform. Efficient e-axle integrates the motor and inverter, while the Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) batteries are designed for safety and reliability.

The electric ‘Maruti’ SUV will be offered in India with two battery pack options – a 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 4WD variant with the bigger battery pack offers a maximum power output of 135 kW and 300 Nm of max torque. The former variant’s motor output is rated at 106 kW and 189 Nm. Maruti claims a pure-electric driving range of over 500 kms for this car.
An interesting aspect of this EV is its ‘ALLGRIP-e‘ electric 4WD system. The system features two independent e-axles at the front and rear. The system enables powerful performance and precise drive control with superior responsiveness. This tech makes e Vitara the first electric car in the Indian compact e-SUV segment to get a 4WD system.
Active Safety
Moving on, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara comes loaded with 7 airbags including the knee protection airbag. All wheels get disc brakes with twin-piston calipers (front only). The car also packs electronic parking brake and Hill Hold Assist feature.

Moreover, the e Vitara is equipped with Level 2 ADAS for active road safety. Functionalities include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and High Beam Assist, Active Cornering Control, 360-degree camera and so on. Other tech highlights of the car includes 3 driving modes, advanced telematics, and intelligent charging systems.
It is amazing to see the ‘Vitara’ moniker of the Maruti Suzuki is evolving into the new era. The e Vitara’s launch today reminded me of the debut of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza about 9 years ago at 2016 Auto Expo, which evoked similar emotions and excitement in the company circles.
