The new Mercedes-Benz CLA packs stunning design, dynamic performance in electric and hybrid avatars, and top-notch safety in its class.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA has been awarded “Car of the Year 2026” award by the European Car of the Year jury at the on-going Brussels Motor Show in Belgium. The car competed against six finalists among 34 new models, shortlisted by a jury of 59 automotive journalists from 23 countries for the title.

The CLA scored 320 points, about 100 points ahead of the runner-up Skoda Elroq. The finalists of the coveted award include Kia EV4 (208 points), Citroën C5 Aircross, Fiat Grande Panda, and Dacia Bigster.

The luxury sub-compact sedan is in its third-generation now, launched in mid-last year. It is the first model to underpin Mercedes-Benz’s Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. The CLA is available in ‘High Tech’ petrol hybrid and battery-electric avatars, along with a Shooting Brake (station wagon) design option. It is currently on sale in Europe, and will be launched soon in the US market.

The electric CLA offers a driving range of up to 792 kms (WLTP figure) in a single charge. Battery options include a 58 kWh LFP for the entry-level variants and a bigger 85 kWh NMC type pack. The 800V architecture enables range of up to 325 km of range in just 10 minutes of fast-charging.

The hybrid CLA, on the other hand, scores high on efficiency too. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol turbo engine mated to ‘High Tech’ smart hybrid system and an electrified electrified 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. As a result, fuel consumption of just around five litres per 100 kms (5.4-4.9 l/ 100 km) as per the company’s claim.

Moreover, the Mercedes CLA is also a “Best Performer” in Euro NCAP ratings. Thanks to the brand’s consistent focus on state-of-the-art-safety design and techs, the car offers superior protection for adult occupants, children, and vulnerable road users.
