Tesla Model S 100D Gets Longest Driving Range of 539 Kms
A 100 kWh battery pack bring 11-14 percent increase from the outgoing model; Model X will also get the improved range.
Tesla Motors has introduced the upgraded 100D variant of its Model S luxury electric sedan. The model now boasts the longest pure-electric driving range so far in the global markets. The new battery pack of 100 kilowatt-hour capacity is the reason for the extended driving range, which is a jump of over 66 kms (41 miles) from the Model S 90D variant’s 294 miles to 100D’s 335 miles.
The high-performance 100 kWh battery pack will also be offered in the Model X range, which will see an increase of over 48 kms (30 miles) with a total mileage of 474 kms (295 miles). The Model S 100D will be offered in the Western markets with a starting price of $95,800 (INR 65.25 lakhs), which is an additional premium of $3,000 (approximately), comparing to the Model S 90D variant.
Tesla is reported to have capped the battery capacity to 100 kWh for its cars, thereby concentrating on improving the battery technology and construction to improve the driving range. At its newly established Tesla Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, USA, the company has just began producing improved battery cells, with active collaboration from Panasonic.
