New Ford EcoSport Facelift Launch Next Month

The popular sub-4m compact crossover Ford EcoSport is awaiting a mid-term face-lift for the first time since its launch in 2013. It is reported that the refreshed model is expected to be launched in India by third week of January 2017. Ford unveiled the new US-spec 2018 EcoSport last month with exterior and interior updates. It is likely that the company brings this model as the EcoSport facelift for India.

Design wise, the new EcoSport sports a tweaked hexagonal grille coupled with large and elevated fog lamp assembly, complementing the projector-type headlamps with LED treatment. Although the side profile seems untouched, the rear part of the car bears maximum changes. Gone is the tailgate-hinged spare wheel, while the uncluttered tail lamp area and downward-curving rear windshield renders a whole-new look to the car.

New EcoSport Facelift will feature redesigned dashboard layout and color scheme, with new steering wheel and large infotainment screen.

The EcoSport’s cabin has undergone some serious updates, thanks to the completely redesigned dashboard layout and interior elements. The new addition is the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in place of a tiny display in the outgoing model. With Ford’s new SYNC3 application, it supports smartphone connectivity, parking assistance using camera, and navigation. A 675-watt 10 speaker Bang & Olufsen system is also included in the US-spec EcoSport.

Although the goodies of this sort may differ in the Indian package, Ford India is expected to offer new additions in cabin technologies to woo buyers. The company will use the existing engine line-up in the facelift model as well, including the 1.5-liter petrol Ti-VCT (110 PS), 1.5-liter TDCi diesel (100 PS), and the top-spec 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol unit rated at 125 PS of power. The standard 5-speed manual and optional 6-speed auto gearbox will continue as well.

The Indian-spec 2018 EcoSport will be locally made at the company’s Chennai plant.
