Tata Kite 5 Compact Sedan – 2016 Auto Expo
At the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, Tata Motors has unveiled Kite 5 sub-4 metre sedan for the first time. It is based on the new Zica hatch (who is to be renamed again!) is expected to replace the Indigo eCS, at the least in the private car market.
The Kite 5 stands apart in the conventional compact sedan crowd, thanks to a bit of coupe-ish and notch-back styling of the rear, suavely integrating the slant windscreen and the boot lid. Yet, the boot lid is of the conventional type; a long-back type wide open lid along with the windscreen would have been interesting. Atop the rear windscreen is a nicely integrated spoiler with LEDs. The roof and the side OVRMs are fully blackened out. The sweeping-out taillamps along with a chrome strip that runs between them are elegant and are placed at a considerable height. The front half of the car remains essentially the Zica hatch.
Although the interiors were not revealed, the Kite 5 sedan will have a largely similar interiors like the hatch, and is expected to feature a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and an 8-speaker surround system.

The compact sedan is 3,995 mm long, 1,647 mm wide, 1,535 mm tall, while the wheelbase measures 2,450 mm. The front suspension setup is fully independent while the rear is semi-independent. It stands on a 15-inch, 16-spoke stylish alloy wheels.
The engine lineup for the Kite 5 sedan will include the all-new 1.2-litre Revotron 3-cylinder petrol with power capability of 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque. A diesel variant with the new 1.05-litre Revotorq 3-cylinder diesel engine will also be offered. The car will feature ‘Multi-Drive’ City and Eco driving modes. An AMT gearbox is also a possibility in the long-run.
The name ‘Kite 5’ is in probability the company’s internal codename and the production version will be rechristened. Tata Motors is in the process of renaming the Zica hatchback as well, as the name sounds like the ‘Zika’ virus that turns out to be a nightmare! In fact, the hatch was first known by the name ‘Kite’ which sounds really nice than Zica. The compact sedan segment is really pepping-up in a big way. As a matter of fact, this auto expo saw two other models making this first appearances – the Volkswagen Ameo and the Chevrolet Essentia sedan. Tata also unveiled the production-spec Nexon sub- 4m compact SUV at the show.
