Volkswagen has come up with a world electric taxi project which has been shown in Berlin, Milan, and London and is being studied for New York, Hong Kong, and cities in India.

The concept is small – just 3.73m long – but offers generous room at its two passenger seats, accesses from a single, cantilevered door. The space alongside the driver is available for luggage, just like the legendary London Taxi. VW thinks that in the future city centres will be restricted to Zero-emissions vehicles so the Taxi Concept is pure electric.
A 115PS electric motor and a 45kW lithium-ion battery pack should give a range of up to 300km and a speed of 120kmph – more than adequate for city taxi operations. This car is in the guise of a London black cab, but apparently based on the Space Up! mini-MPV.
