Heavy-duty yet lightweight rear rubber suspension aimed at greater payloads and improved durability. 

Tata Motors has introduced a new variant in the Prima 3718 range – a 10×2 rigid truck equipped with ‘HAULMAAX’ rubber suspension – at the 2018 Auto Expo, Greater Noida. This model is the first of its kind in its segment, designed by Taco Hendrickson for haulage applications where lightweight, durability, and driver comfort are crucial.

Basically, the Haulmaax suspension system utilizes rubber bolster springs matched with progressive load springs that offers a balanced performance in terms of empty ride quality and loaded stability. In the empty condition, the diagonally mounted rubber bolster springs act in shear and compression to provide optimum spring deflection for improved ride quality, by absorbing vertical road inputs and fore/ aft shocks.

As payload increases, the bolster springs compress and increase in stiffness, also maintaining optimum ride quality. With higher cargo loads, the high-density auxiliary spring engages to provide greater stability. The system is likely to reduce wheel hop by eliminating the fixed pivot points in centre bushings of walking-beam suspensions. Tata Motors also claim that no lubrication is required, while maintenance also comes down as there are fewer bushings. The suspension also prolongs tyre life, it adds.

The 3718.T comes with Prima LX cabin, ergonomically designed and fully-loaded air-conditioned tiltable sleeper cab. The truck is powered by 5.9-litre Cummins ISBe common-rail diesel engine that makes 180 hp (134 kW) power and 700 Nm of torque, coupled to a 6-speed G950 manual transmission. The front axle is a forged ‘I’ beam reverse elliot type, featuring parabolic leaf spring suspension. The service brakes are dual circuit S-cam air brakes assisted by ABS.

The Prima LX 3718.T’s max speed is limited to 80 kmph, with a gredeability rating of 19 percent. The company has also launched Tata Signa 4323.T 6 Axle Rigid Truck at the auto expo this year, along with a host of other CV products.
