The 12-metre luxury coach is built on the popular LPO 1623 platform. 

Tata Motors literally stole the 2018 Auto Expo show with its uber-cool intercity coach ‘Magna’ displayed at its commercial vehicle pavilion. The bus maker assures best-in-class body design, comfort features, and reliability in bus, along with a host of safety and interior customization features. The company is jacking-up its marketing activities for Magna buses to crack the premium bus market in the country.

Design and styling is at its best with the Tata-Marcopolo Magna. Neatly crafted exterior styling, along with complementing embellishment all around the body, makes the bus a pleasure to look at. Large windshield along with clean headlamp and grille layout gives a balanced look up front. The side window line and body graphics are also interesting. The front-engined bus measures 2.6 metres wide and 3.7 metres high, with a wheelbase of 6.2 metres.

Tata Magna scores high in terms of well-appointed interior layout and quality of materials used inside. 

Step inside the cabin, the sliding door and aesthetically-designed dashboard and driver partitioning greets you with impressive levels of fit and finish. The passenger area is well-appointed with luxurious push-back seats sourced from Harita. LED night lamps are integrated in the hat racks, while air-con vents and mobile charging ports are available in each seat rows. An entertainment system with two LED monitors and optional DVD player is on offer.

The latter half of the passenger compartment has a partition for the ‘business class’, with luxurious semi-sleeper 2+1 seating with optional calf support, ample leg room, and individual charging ports. There is an utility area in the rear end of the cabin with a compact-designed chemical toilet. The bus can seat a total of 28 passengers, excluding driver and co-driver. The coach also features class leading boot space up to 8.1 Cu.M.

Tata Magna coach has a half partition for ‘business class’ with luxurious 2+1 seating 

The Tata Magna is powered by Cummins-sourced ISBe 5.9-litre turbo-charged diesel engine that makes 230 hp (170 kW) power and 850 Nm of torque. A 6-speed ‘G-750’ manual gearbox with overdrive function transmits power to the rear wheels. Tata Motors claims that the engine is tuned for higher pick-up and better acceleration, with optimum torque and maximum safe driving speed. The bus features weveller suspension at front and pneumatics at the rear, along with an anti-roll bar.

In terms of safety, the Magna is equipped with dual-circuit S-cam air brakes with ABS assist and optional Hydrodynamic Retarder for improved braking and stability. The body is fully-compliant to AIS 052 bus code, including the driver working area. Seat belts are on offer for passengers, along with 6 emergency exits (4 breakable windows, 1 emergency door, and a roof hatch), a fire-extinguisher, and a first-aid kit.
