Kia SP Concept Futuristic SUV – Auto Expo 2018
The concept previews the spirit and potentialities of the Kia brand for motoring enthusiasts in India.
South-Korea based Kia Motors is perhaps the star performer at the 2018 Auto Expo, Greater Noida this year. The brand has premiered its all-new ‘SP Concept’ SUV for the first time, which is expected to underpin future Hyundai Creta-rival model for the developing markets. The company has confirmed the commencement of retail sales of its cars in India in the latter half of 2019. At the Auto Expo, Kia has displayed 16 global models from its global portfolio, just to give a taste of the new brand to the Indian audience.
The Kia SP Concept is a gracefully-designed compact SUV with tons of charming elements including LED and chrome embellishments. Up front, the mask boasts a formative styling that is robust and unique, while the ‘tiger nose’ grille redefines the brand’s family styling language in an innovative manner. The headlamps feature slim LED graphics, which flanks the wider grille and upheld bumper.
The side profile of the concept is dominated by the sleek window-line and character styling on the door panels, complemented by chunky 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The silken OVRMs and flush door handles also grab the attention. Over the rear, the elements like chrome tailgate garnish flowing into wraparound tail lamps, silver bumper decoration, and skid plate presents a balanced-yet-futuristic look to the car.
The interiors of the car was not revealed, although Kia’s official video on the concept car reveals it all. The company calls this concept as “the new dress code for Indian roads”, hinting at the production version may come up with a transformative design approach that is not so like the Hyundai Creta, whose platform the concept is based on. What is also interesting is that the SP concept is in itself quite down-to-earth and realistic in terms of styling, unlike typical concept cars that are so not close to the production models.
