2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan (Maruti Ciaz rival) – Auto Expo 2018
Toyota’s new sedan to rival Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Ciaz in the premium end of the entry-level sedan class.
The all-new Toyota Yaris has been unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo, Greater Noida. This models is perhaps the cheaper replacement in place of Toyota Vios we have been expecting in India, called as ‘Yaris Ativ’ in the Thailand model. The new sedan will be commercially launched in April this year, with product positioning above the existing Etios line-up.
On the face of it, the new Yaris sedan is beamingly impressive to look at. Thanks to the sleek projector headlamp and sporty grille and lower bumper graphics up front, the car presents a graceful image akin to its bigger brother, the Corolla. Although the bonnet and the side panels are largely plain, the nicely-crafted silhouette of the shell along with the high-held rear end provides for a fair styling. The sweeping taillamps and elegant 15-inch alloy wheel pattern are other nice touches in terms of exterior looks.
On the inside, the Toyota Yaris is decent-looking, although the layout seems a bit cost-cutting. The dashboard is dominated by 3-spoke steering wheel and centre-console 7-inch infotainment screen that supports navigation and gesture control. The instrumentation panel with large dials are nice to rear, along with an ‘Optitron’ TFT screen that delivers all car-related details. The driver’s seat is 8-way adjustable, while the cabin features first-in-class roof-mounted air-con vents with ambient lighting. The seats are fairly comfortable to sit, both the rows to be precise.
For now, the Toyota Yaris will be powered by a 1.5-litre VVVi-T petrol engine only, which is expected to deliver 105 bhp power and 140 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired either to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT gearbox. Diesel engine option for the new sedan is likely to join the fray later sometime in this year.
In terms of safety, Toyota is offering 7 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, all disc brakes, and parking sensors. Other key equipment features included in the Toyota Yaris are rain-sensing wipers, paddle shifts for CVT, cruise control, Tyre pressure monitoring system, and LED DRL strips on both head and tail lamps.
