2019 Honda Amaze (Next-Gen) Compact Sedan – Auto Expo 2018
Impressive exterior styling, along with spacious and upmarket interiors, makes the new Amaze an undeniable winner.
Honda has debuted the all-new second generation ‘Amaze’ sub 4-metre compact sedan at the 2018 Auto Expo, Greater Noida. The Japanese carmaker says that the new car is a product based on extensive market research done to understand the driving needs and lifestyle of Indian car buyers. The car is expected to go on sale in India by next month or April this year.
To be very frank, I did not expect any huge transformation in the new Amaze sedan. But the new car threw surprise storm at me when I witnessed its unwrapping at the day 1 of Auto Expo. What a “amazing” changeover?? Honda designers have simply nailed it. They have clearly tried all they can to make the Amaze a proper sedan.
Design wise, the new Amaze boasts a more equilibrated silhouette and bolder stance akin to a large sedan. Sharp cut design, including a flattened nose, more pronounced side character lines, and abrupt boot lid-cum-bumper design is a bit retro, but the overall styling is not boring at all. It’s perhaps the detailing like more pronounced bonnet, ‘thicker’chrome grille like the new Civic, and the clear headlights with LED DRLs make all the difference.
Moreover, the upright A-pillar makes the car’s cabin inside look airy and spacious. While along the C-pillar, the window and rear quarter panel design is nicely done, something reminiscence of Volvo sedans! On the inside, things are way more premium looking than outside. The beige and black interiors are neat and built well, with the quality of plastics greatly improved. The dashboard layout is new, as does the three-spoke steering wheel and instrumentation cluster. The centre console boasts a large touchscreen infotainment system. The front and rear leg room and seating comfort are enhanced as well.
Details on engine options and power output are yet to be revealed. Most likely, the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motors may be carried forward from the outgoing car along with 5-speed manual gearbox, although Honda has assured CVT automatic gearbox option in the diesel variant as well.
With an impressive attitude and ‘amazing’ styling, the new 2019 Honda Amaze is all set to take on the fierce competition in its segment, especially from the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
