Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Global Debut - 2016 Auto Expo Live

Say hello to Maruti Suzuki‘s first ever sub-4 metre compact SUV “Vitara Brezza” that has been just unveiled to global folks at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Fully designed, developed and engineered in India for the first time, the Vitara Brezza is definitely a show stopper and is likely to be a hit in the segment.

The Brezza, once launched possibly next month, will be slotted between the Swift hatch and the premium S-Cross crossover. It’s prime rival would be the Ford Ecosport and Mahindra TUV 100, as only these two may come under the speculative price range of the Brezza. It will be sold in four trim levels – LDi, VDi, ZDi, and ZDi+ – along with optional safety packs for the LDi and VDi variants. The fact that the new mini SUV will be sold at the regular Maruti dealerships (and not at the premium Nexa network) points to the mass-market appeal of the car.

When it comes to the design and styling, the Vitara Breeza has been designed completely by Maruti’s local team without any involvement from the parent company. And that’s partly why the car doesn’t look like a ‘mini’ Vitara nor takes cues from it, although the newbie bears the name of its premium sibling.

Up front, the Vitara Brezza displays a modest-yet-distinctive face dominated by angular headlight clusters, matt-black grille with horizontal slats, and a large quadrilateral lower grille with added decorations. The side profile is taken over by fairly squared wheel arches and high shoulder line that matches the glasshouse, while the ‘C’ and ‘D’ pillars appear to meet the slightly curvy roofline. Short overhangs, high-ride height, along with an upright hood gives the mini SUV a balanced neat and balanced shape. Over the rear are the wraparound tail-light assembly and an upright rear windscreen, along with an integrated rear spoiler.

Moving to the cabin, the dual-tone interiors of the Vitara Brezza are plain and simple. The three-spoke steering wheel is loaned-out from the Swift range, as does many other components inside the cabin. The touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and an automatic climate control supplements the usual utilitarian interiors of Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti seems to stuff the new SUV with decent level of features and equipments. The driver-side airbag is standard across all variants, while the optional safety pack brings passenger side airbag, ABS and EBD to the entry-level trims. The top-of-the-line ZDi + variant gets dual-tone exterior paint job, reverse parking camera, start-stop button, and cruise control.

As far as the engine options are concerned, the compact SUV borrows the line-up from the Swift and Dzire range that consists of 1.2-liter K-Series petrol unit and the 1.3-liter DDiS 200 diesel motor, both paired with 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel unit makes 90 PS and 200 Nm of max torque.
