Ashok Leyland Saathi is pitched as a segment disruptor to take on entry-level SCVs in the market.

At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, Ashok Leyland (AL) has unveiled ‘Saathi’, an entry-level Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) mini-truck for the domestic market. The company claims the product to be a “segment disruptor” creating new standards in its segment.

With a payload capacity of 1,120 kgs, the Saathi is positioned below the AL Dost Lite in the company’s SCV lineup. This is the space that Ashok Leyland was missing out in the competition, especially with the Tata Ace Gold (900 kgs payload). The mini-truck measures 4,406 mm long and 1,663 mm wide, with a wheel base of 2,250 mm.

Powered by AL’s ‘P 15’ 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine with intercooler, the Saathi makes a maximum output of 45 hp power and 110 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. AL’s advanced ‘LNT’ technology eliminates the need for AdBlue usage, thereby reducing TCO for operators.

Ashok Leyland Saathi’s interior is utilitarian, but the dashboard design is refreshingly new.

Further, the new mini-truck boasts a 4.1 m2 cargo loading bay, which is about 24 percent larger as against its competition vehicle, the manufacturer claims. AL further adds that the engine is tuned for superior mileage and performance, complemented by larger 14-inch wheels and parabolic leaf-spring suspension setup.
