Honda Accord Hybrid Available For Order @ INR 37 Lakhs

Honda Accord Hybrid India Launch

Imported as CBU from Thailand: Packs a 2.0L petrol engine with 2 electric motors aided by a 1.3 kWh battery pack.

Honda has launched the all-new Accord Hybrid in India, with a price tag of INR 37 Lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Available as made-to-order, the premium sedan will be offered only in the hybrid avatar in the local market. The Accord that entered India in its sixth generation in 2001 was discontinued a couple of years back owing to poor sales. And now the car return back, although with less excitement and fanfare.

The ninth-generation Accord is less exciting mainly because there is only a single iteration, i.e. the hybrid, and that too at a higher price tag. That’s partly because the car doesn’t avail our government’s FAME incentive for green cars, since it is a CBU import. Even otherwise, the pricing would still be a problem for the buyers except for those who take pride in making some ‘green’ impressions at their office parking lot!

Under the Accord’s hood is the company’s i-MMD (intelligent Multi Mode Drive) powertrain, which includes a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine with 145 PS output, and two AC Synchronous Permanent-Magnet motors aided by a 1.3 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. The combined max output is rated at 215 PS, while a electronic CVT gearbox transfers power to the front wheels. There are three driving modes, with a pure-electric ‘EV Drive’ mode solely running on battery power abetted by regenerative braking. While the ‘Sport Drive’ mode brings out peppy performance with the electric motors functioning as acceleration boosters. The Accord Hybrid claims an ARAI-certified mileage figure of 23 kmpl.

The 2017 Accord Hybrid is nice to look at visually. The sharply creased and eloborately structured front face is a treat, while the elegantly contoured hood and body panels with subtle character lines make grand impressions. On the inside too, the Accord is all sophisticated with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an all-digital 7.7-inch intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) for the driver. Other key features includes auto LED headlamps, dual-zone climate control with plasma cluster, remote engine start, Lane assist, Vehicle Stability assist with traction control and electronic brake assist, Hill Start assist, and six airbags.

The New Accord Hybrid is a yet-another petrol hybrid executive sedan joining its only alternate rival – the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The upcoming Lexus ES300h Hybrid sedan that has been shortlisted for the brand’s debut operations will join the petrol-hybrid-sedan league by early next year.
