Hyundai i20 Active Debuts Globally On March 17 From India

India
will be the first market to receive this crossover version of i20. National launch on
March 17 at New Delhi.

With the success the new ‘elite’ i20, Hyundai India is ready
for a yet another launch of a car born out of it – the i20 Active Cross-hatch.
The car is a little rugged, ‘SUV-mimic’ version of the popular second-generation i20
hatch already on sale in India as Elite i20. It has been designed at Hyundai
Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany.

The company has scheduled for the national launch of i20
active on March 18 at New Delhi, thereby getting a global launch as well. This is
to be followed by the launches in Mumbai and Bangalore locally on 18th March. India
will be the first market to receive this crossover version. I personally don’t adore these cross hatches, they are merely the usual hatches with plastic feedings all over them, and few other changes mostly cosmetic. However, buyers will surely appreciate such varieties in the product range, and more so in India with the ridiculous SUV craze.

What differentiates the i20 Active with the regular i20 are
few cosmetics, as every typical cross hatch, like the SUV styling new bumpers, projector headlamp with LED
DRLs and silver plastic skidpads, big rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, new
alloys and conspicuous roof rails. Interiors may get different colours and trim,
and perhaps a new infotainment system.

With regard to the mechanics, the car’s ground clearance has
been increased to enable little-bit of driving activity on unsurfaced roads. Rest
of the car, including engine options, are likely to be similar to the regular i20
hatch. Prices are expected to be around INR 6.5-8 lakhs (ex-Showroom), so as to
confront the likes of Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo, and Toyota Etios Cross.
